Whats up ya'll. A couple weeks ago Morgan Tepsic dropped an email to see if I would want to contribute anything for his magazine TEPSIC. I got last months magazine and its pretty sweet, there's some cool work in there. Anyways I've got a couple photos in the August issue. Its $9 for print or $2 for a digital copy.

This one has been in the bucket for a couple weeks, I went down to Eagan, MN to grab a portrait of Andrew Ramirez a couple hours after the childcare story. Andrew came out to his parents when he was 17 and was promptly shipped off to Bachmann & Associates Christen counseling center as an attempt to turn him straight.

Zombie Shootout for Outdoor Life

If I've learned anything in this business its when an editor calls and says "zombies" and "assault rifles" in in the same sentence you drop whatever you're doing and go. I had the opportunity to shoot the 4th annual Outbreak Omega in southern Minnesota this past weekend and it was totally awesome. Met some interesting characters, got some cool photos, and blew away some clay pigeons and zombie targets which bleed when you shoot them.

Side note all the weaponry photographed here is fully operational, which includes the AR-15 Assault Rifle/Chainsaw and the semi-automatic machine gun welded to a wheelchair.

Gov't Shutdown for The New York Times

The Government caught a flat tire here in Minnesota and a lot of people are feeling it. This story ran in last saturdays New York Times on the effect of the shutdown on subsidized child care.

Howard Snitzer/ Dr. Roger White for The Wall Street Journal

Back in action here in Minnesota. Got an email last week asking if I could head down to Rochester to shoot a story on Howard Snitzer who is recovering from a heart attack at the Mayo Clinic. Howard was technically dead for a little over an hour and a half back in January after having a heart attack. Through some fast acting citizens who performed CPR right away, and paramedics who had the guidance of Dr. White at Mayo, Howard was able to be revived without any brain damage. Howard was a totally killer guy with all sorts of awesome stories about selling peyote and what have you, I hope to get down to Rochester again and share a slice of pie at some point.

I'm back home. The trip was a whirlwind, definitely productive, there's almost too much stuff to handle. Josh and I are moving on to phase two, processing, sorting, editing, compiling. It will be interesting where this whole thing goes, hopefully somewhere even more interesting.

We had to get out of Vegas as two days takes a toll on your psyche. Yesterday we shipped off to the weirdest place in the west, Rachel, NV. Sonic booms create rumbling tremors on the ground and sound like a cannon next to your head. A lot of the time you hear constant air traffic overhead but can't see a damn thing in a clear blue sky. The locals say they've been running dogfights all week, so hopefully we see some more cool stuff.

SXSW 2011: The Strokes/ Kanye West

I saw two big shows while out South By this year and some other really great concerts as well. On Thursday night The Strokes played a free show on the waterfront of beautiful downtown Austin, I've been wanting to see them since I was 13 so that was a real treat.

The other big show I saw was this crazy GOOD Music lineup on Saturday night at an abandoned power station. Me and my buddy Jack rolled over there around midnight, stepped over a fence, and breezed past security to see one of the most hyped shows of the week. If I've learned anything from photojournalism its to act like you are supposed to be there. We got to chat it up with the guys from TV on the Radio, and got to see a million special guests including Jay-Z and Kanye doing Big Pimpin.

Also... P. Diddy was there. And I'm an awful paparazzi.

Eelpout Festival 2011 for Outdoor Life

I made the trip a couple hours north of Minneapolis to Walker, MN this past weekend to shoot the Eelpout Festival for Outdoor Life. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, and what I encountered was a bit overwhelming. As a friend put it, "Its like Burning Man on ice." I'd say it was a pretty accurate description, I hope to make the trek back next year and really do the event justice.

I got a call last week to stop into our local branch of the Federal Reserve to shoot a portait of Narayana Kocherlakota, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. I had the pleasure of using automated revolving doors for the first time and subsequently getting my camera bag lodged in them on my way out.

Youth Hockey for The New York Times

I got the opportunity to work with The New York Times a couple weeks back shooting a youth hockey game between the teams from Edina and Prior Lake. The pace of the game was super quick, and since ice time is so expensive they had the kids in and out within an hour. I had a nice chat with Brian Lawton former North Star and coach of his sons Edina team. Special thanks to Brad Smith at the Times for hooking me up with the story, hope to work with them again soon.

Squirrel Hunt

So my dad calls me up the other day and says his buddy Les is in town from Montana and wants to go squirrel hunting. Les grew up in what was formerly rural Minnesota, which is now a subdivision, and used to go squirrel hunting every fall as a kid. Since he hadn't gone in 30+ years, he decided to give it a whirl since he was in town visiting relatives. We were up at 5 am and out till 6:30 pm.... I didn't see one damn squirrel.
