THIS BLOG HAS MOVED!!!!!!!!

Hey everybody,

I finally got it together and have integrated my blog with my website, in fact I've completely rebooted my website.

You can keep following the blog here: www.stephenmaturen.com/blog
And of course the website here: www.stephenmaturen.com

If you are having trouble viewing the site just clear out your cache and internet history... Should do the trick, otherwise call AOL and ask why it isn't working.

This will stay up for posterity.

Thanks to everyone who has passed by, and special thanks to everybody who has dropped a nice note in the past four years!

MIDDLE WESTERN

Hey Ya'll. I'll be contributing work to a new Online Zine of sorts based in Minneapolis called Middle Western. It's a collective of young journalists, writers, and photographers. From short stories and essays to interviews and reviews, Middle Western hopes to provide a creative outlet for the eager youth in the flyover.

Virgin Islands: Set 1

Jake Deitchler for The New York Times

A couple weeks back I got to photograph Jake Deitchler, a former University of Minnesota and Team USA wrestler, for The New York Times. The story is part of their ongoing coverage of the Olympics leading up to London 2012. Deitchler was a top ranked wrestler coming out of high school, but now at age 22 he has been forced to retire from wrestling due to concussions.

Trayvon Martin T-shirts for The New York Times

Had the opportunity to meet a really great illustrator and all around good guy yesterday in Rashaun Collins. Last week Rashaun decided to create a T-shirt to benefit the family of Trayvon Martin through his Discreetly Greek clothing brand. I've got a couple photos of Rashaun featured in an article (Page A14 today).

DIII Wrestling for The New York Times

I spent a good chunk of last week working on a story about the wrestling rivalry between Augsburg and Wartburg Colleges. Between the two schools they have captured every national title since 1995, trading spaces as the champion and being almost evenly split by number of titles. Got to drive down to Iowa again for the second time in three weeks which is odd... I guess thats where all the news is at. Always good to lead the sports page though.

No Child Left Behind for The Wall Street Journal

Doubling up today.. I spent some time at Adams Elementary School in Coon Rapids, MN for a story about the effects of No Child Left Behind. Their principal Jeremy Tammi was nice enough to guide me around the school while I got some photos of one of their Fourth Grade math classes. Story ran last Friday... so unless you can find a back issue you can read the story online HERE.

Cattle for The Wall Street Journal

Woke up on farm time last Tuesday to make a two hour trek down to Carpenter, IA to spend the morning with Tim Johnson. Due to the draught in the south farmers in Iowa and Nebraska are buying up cattle from ranchers down in Texas and Oklahoma. You can read the story HERE or check out the gallery online HERE.
